70‑Minute High‑Intensity Youth Volleyball Clinic (Ages 19 & Under)

Warm-up & Activation — 10 minutes

  • Dynamic group jog & movement prep (2 min): light jog around court, high knees, butt kicks, carioca.

  • Mobility flow (3 min): hip CARs, ankle circles, shoulder circles, thoracic rotations.

  • Dynamic activation circuit (5 min, 30s work/10s transition each): quick-feet ladder or cone shuffles, walking lunges with reach, banded monster walks, plank-to-downward dog shoulder taps. Emphasize posture, explosive intent, and breathing.

Technical Block 1 — Serving & Serve Receive — 12 minutes

  • Progressive serving warm-up (6 min)

    • 2 min: standing float serves from midcourt (focus toss consistency and platform).

    • 2 min: jump float/jump serve approach without contact (footwork timing).

    • 2 min: targeted serves from baseline to zones (6 serves each; coach calls zone).

  • Serve receive pattern (6 min)

    • 3-person rotation: passer-server-target drill (3 reps each role)

    • Focus: platform angle, footwork to target, communication (“Mine/Left/Back”).

    • Coaches feed short, deep, and off-speed serves to simulate game variation.

Skill Block 2 — Passing to Offense Transition — 12 minutes

  • Controlled pepper with target (6 min)

    • Triangle: passer → setter → hitter. Passers aim to a 1-meter target in front of setter.

    • Setter performs consistent 2nd touch to an attacker (pre-set footwork).

    • Emphasize first-touch control, setter hand shape, and attacker timing.

  • Quick off-system transition (6 min)

    • Coach tosses unpredictable passes (short, long, high). Setter must adjust and run 1-to-3 quick sets.

    • Hitter practices reading setter’s hand and timing approach for quicks and slides.

Skill Block 3 — Hitting & Block Read — 12 minutes

  • Approach & arm swing mechanics (5 min)

    • Step-drill: hitters rehearse 3-step/4-step approach without ball, focusing on knee bend, shoulder rotation, and snap.

    • Use target zones on court to measure carry-through and line/angle hitting.

  • Live 1-on-1 block read drill (7 min)

    • Hitter vs. single blocker with coach tosses to setter; hitter attacks against block.

    • Rotate roles: hitter, blocker, setter, defender.

    • Focus: hitter shot selection, tool off blocker, and blocker footwork/penetration.

Conditioning & Agility Circuit — 8 minutes

  • 4 stations, 40s on / 20s transition, 2 rounds (total 8 min)

    • Station A: Explosive lateral jumps over low hurdle (power + landing control)

    • Station B: Short shuttle sprints (5-10-5) with immediate defensive drop

    • Station C: Medicine ball rotational throws (simulate core torque for hitting)

    • Station D: Quick hands reaction (coach points/whistle — players react to touch a cone and sprint)

Competitive Game‑Situation Drills — 16 minutes

  • 6v6 Controlled Competitive Sets (12 min)

    • Play two 6-minute mini-sets to 12 points (win by 2), with specific constraints per set:

      • Set 1 constraint: Must complete at least 3 passes before attack (emphasize control).

      • Set 2 constraint: Bonus point for scoring off first tempo/quicker sets (encourage speed).

    • Coaches stop play for quick teaching moments on rotations, serve receive alignment, and transition.

  • Pressure Serving Contest (4 min)

    • Teams line up; each player serves twice aiming for target zones. Points: 2 for target, 1 for in-play, 0 for error.

    • Winning team gets small reward (team cheer or court choice).

Cool-down & Debrief — 2 minutes

  • Team breath & static stretch (1 min): hamstrings, quads, shoulders.

  • Quick 1‑minute group debrief: 3 takeaways (what to keep), 1 improvement area, coach gives final bold challenge for next practice.

Coaching Notes & Emphasis

  • Intensity over volume: keep reps purposeful, with short, clear feedback between reps.

  • Cue language: “HIT YOUR TARGET,” “FIRST TOUCH,” “READ THEN REACT,” “FINISH STRONG.”

  • Rotations: Ensure every player rotates through passer, setter, hitter, and blocker roles.

  • Progressions: Scale drill difficulty by changing toss quality, adding blockers, or increasing serve speed
